Opened in 2005 as part of the Mall of the Emirates, one of the largest shopping malls in the world, Ski Dubai is the only ski resort in the Middle East and the one of the largest indoor ski facilities in the world. This unique attraction has been featured on various television shows including The Amazing Race & Travel Channel’s Extreme Resorts. Although located in one of the hottest and driest regions of the world, Ski Dubai in housed in an extremely efficiently insulated 25 story dome that keeps temperatures at 30° F during the day and 21° F at night. Each night the facility produces 50,000 lbs of artificial snow to get the slopes ready for the next day’s visitors. There’s no need to worry about equipment and apparel as the price of admission includes winter clothing as well as ski and snowboarding equipment for you to make use of, the only thing you need to bring is a hat and gloves as those aren’t provided due to hygiene reasons.

Chuuk Island and Chuuk Harbor are two of the world’s most famous diving destinations. Chuuk, as is presently called by its native peoples, was formerly known as Truk and quite a few other monikers. It is the most populous of the now Federated States of Micronesia and lies in the Caroline chain of islands. Chuuk means mountain area in Chuukese and it is exactly that, majestic mountains surrounded by deep blue ocean. The native people of Chuuk were under the administration of first Spain from the 1870s, and then Germany took over in 1899. It was later occupied by Japan from 1914 until the end of World War II. At this point the United States took control and finally granted them their independence some 40 plus years later.

Once home to the famous Henry Flagler, the Flagler Museum located in Palm Beach, Florida is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Also known as Whitehall, the residence was completed on February 6, 1902. The completion date was just in time for the newlyweds (Flagler and his third wife Mary Lily Kenan) to enjoy it. It also just so happened to be his wedding gift to his new wife. Flagler’s first wife, Mary Harkness, had been sickly for many years. As such, the first time he visited Florida in 1876 was to help her convalesce. He found the winter in Florida to be exhilarating. Unfortunately however his wife passed away only a few years later. After a failed second marriage, he wed Mary Lily Kenan in 1901 and each year he and his new wife would travel by his railroad and private luxury car to winter in Palm Beach at Whitehall.

A suburb of Chicago, Schaumberg is a surprisingly bustling little town that fits perfectly with this family friendly destination. Unlike the amusement parks, LEGOLAND Discovery Center is highly educational and meant to be more of a hands on experience, geared to parents and families with children ages 3 to 12.
