Propeller Island, which carries the meaning “aesthetic sensation for the eye and ear”, is a pseudonym used by the German artist Lars Stroschen to publish his audio-visual creations. Propeller Island City Lodge is a habitable work of art that he has created in the heart of Berlin. When constructing the lodge, Lars used the philosophy of having nothing replicated – no duplications at all. The finished product due to using this as a guideline was a stunning success. Taking over five years to complete the lodge, Hans dedicated a great deal of time to designing a lot of objects, pictures and other essentials to give each separate room its final touch and feel.
With over thirty different unique guest rooms, there is bound to be a room or two that will catch your eye. Some of the most unusual rooms found at Propeller Island are the Flying Bed; which has slanted floors and a levitating bed, the Mirror Room; a diamond shaped room lined top to bottom with mirrors giving a kaleidoscope kind of effect. The Upside Down Room, that has most of its furnishings on the ceiling and its amazing comfy sleeping quarters as well as a few sitting areas are located below the floorboards. There is also the Gruft, a room in which you can choose to sleep in one of two coffins or nest tucked away in a bed located in a labyrinth below the coffins. There is also the Padded Cell, this small room is upholstered from top to bottom with padded green leather. Room prices range from 79 Euros to 190 Euros (approximately $110-$265 USD) for one guest and 15 extra Euros (approximately $20 USD) for each additional member accompanying you.
