Looking for a family friendly vacation this summer? Look no further! The Wisconsin Dells has been a travel destination for over 150 years. The city takes its name from the dells of the Wisconsin River, a scenic glacially-formed gorge that features striking sandstone formations along the banks of the Wisconsin River.
Wisconsin Dells proclaims itself the “Waterpark Capital of the World”. It is home to the largest outdoor waterpark in the U.S., Noah’s Ark with over 70 family activities including 36 waterslides, two wavepools, two endless rivers, four kiddie water play areas, 18-hole mini-golf, Point of No Return, Flash Flood, bumper boats, arcades, gift shops, restaurants, and much more. Also, the largest indoor waterpark resort, Wilderness Territory; and America’s largest water and theme park resort, Hotel Rome at Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park. Other attractions in the Dells include numerous Golf Courses, horseback riding, Tommy Bartlett’s Thrill Show, Wizard Quest, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Timber Falls Amusement the Ho-Chunk Casino and many other places of interest mostly located on the Wisconsin Dells Parkway.
One of the most memorable experiences is taking a tour of the Wisconsin River and Lake Delton. While there are many choices for exploring this natural masterpiece: jet boats, ziplines, and horse drawn carriages, the most historic is the Wisconsin Ducks whose unique amphibious vehicles are best known for transporting troops and supplies at Normandy. While the history of the vehicle is amazing enough, the drivers make the tours even more memorable. Witty rhetoric and a plethora of knowledge are waiting aboard each boat. The Original Wisconsin Ducks drivers go through six weeks of intense training before they can guide tours. One more week than the soldiers who drove these into battle during World War II and it’s the most desired job in all of the Dells!
So grab your bathing suit, golf clubs and camera, this is a Mid-West experience that should not be missed! Accommodations range from themed resorts featuring indoor and outdoor water parks, economical motels to RV parks, to chain hotels and other amenities. Summer has never been so much fun!
