The historic Palmer House Hilton in Chicago has created a winner in the Lockwood Restaurant located just off the lobby and steps away from such Chi-Town standards as Millennium Park, Navy Pier, and Michigan Avenue. This elegant and stylish locale is perfect for that romantic dinner you’re been planning or perhaps a special night out with a few close friends. Sit down and prepare to be pampered with great service, fabulous food, and wine parings to delight even the most discriminating foodie.
With a constantly varying menu, Lockwood Restaurant does offer a few standards: a “Prix Fixe” selection for those looking for a good meal on a budget and their “Principal Plates” which are typically available all year round. Overall, it’s a Continental Cuisine, but with sort of a French-Italian flair that makes this place unique and oh so decadent. The Crab Filled Zucchini Flower Beignet is an excellent starter complemented by rich, buttery buratta cheese. When they have it available, the Mushroom Soup prepared with crème fraiche is a must order, especially on a brisk Chicago evening. Beef lovers will have to try the Prime Bone-In Ribeye. Cooked in a garlicky, buttery wine sauce the flavors are all but overwhelming and clamor for another bite good. Another good bet is the Veal Osso Bucco; super tender and perfectly flavored. With veal subtlety is the key and this dish had it in spades. Not overwhelming, but just wholly satisfying.
The sommelier on site will help with any wine parings, and Lockwood has a relatively diverse list to go with both the mild and the bold flavors on their menu. When it comes to desert, you are definitely not going to want to split one because both the Chocolate Bath and the Pear are to die for. Molten chocolate cakes are pretty common place these days, but paired up with the raspberry ice cream the taste just pops. Melt in your mouth ooey-gooey goodness. The pear is roasted and served with a hard to describe but delicious ice cream and some crispy almond yummy that just top off the meal. Reservations are recommended and the prices are a bit steep for the average customer, but they are definitely worth it. The food, service, and atmosphere at Lockwood Restaurant make it a must for anyone dining in the Chicago area!
