Four stories and 53,000 square feet of awesome await you in the center of Toronto’s entertainment district. A vision of New York nightclub impresario Peter Gatien, CiRCA is sort of a marriage and rebirth of all of Gatien’s past exploits merged into a vision of nightlife that is redefining Toronto. Entering into their “indoor” entrance (great touch for partying during a Toronto winter) you are greeted by a long light tunnel and then bombarded with all the kitschy excess that makes CiRCA one of the most unique and entertaining hotspots ever known. A mélange of artsy fun and high end nightclub, this is the “IT” place to see and be seen in Toronto.
The first thing you’re going to want to do is hit the massive dance floor. With space for over a thousand people (the club holds up to 3,000) there is plenty of room to shake your bootie to some of the hottest house and trance music around. If you are thinking this place might be great for an event of your own, that same dance floor can hold enough tables to seat over 200 of your guests. Coupled with the extraordinary light shows and a state of the art sound system, dancers are sure to be in for a treat. CiRCA also features plenty of bar areas spread throughout the four floors, so you’ll never have a long wait.
Speaking of, you have got to check out each of the bars. Intricately designed and full of remarkable little details, each new area feels like you left one club and drove across town to a new one. If you want to take a break there’s a 70s themed area on the second floor perfect for a more subdued atmosphere. Then there is the Washroom Bar. Also doubling as the actual unisex bathroom, the Washroom Bar area is a fun little oasis to grab a reasonably priced libation and sit at a bar shaped like a giant toilet! Working with several artists, designers, and architects, CiRCA is dressed to impress. For some interactive hijinks, have a seat at the Sensacell Bar. The surfaces around you are designed to light up and change color each time you touch them. There are also a couple of private VIP booths here which are great for bottle service. You can tell that a lot of care and expense went into this unique and one of a kind nightclub.
Flanked by ever changing art installations, you can expect a new and exciting theme whenever you go. And, despite the enormity of the place, CiRCA offers myriad little spots for more intimate gatherings allowing patrons to chill out and get away from all the hubbub for a few moments. The three floors above the massive dance area have super cool undulating balconies that allow you to look down on the action below. Smokers might be a little disappointed with the rather small and unwelcoming outdoor patio designated as the smoker’ area. You may have to wait in line to get your fix, so plan ahead. Back inside though, from the radical video installations projected floor to ceiling onto the walls to the amazing little sparks of flavor sprinkled throughout, CiRCA will thrill even the most seasoned clubgoer.
