A unique natural wonder, the Pulhapanzak Waterfalls are an amazing experience. There are a number of amazing waterfalls throughout Honduras, Pulhapanzak is the largest, dropping about 140 feet (only 30 feet less of Niagara Falls). One of the reasons it is so popular is because you can actually climb into a cave behind the waterfall and also swim around near the base.
You can walk down to the bottom of the falls by yourself, but to get closer tour guides are needed to be able to fully explore Pulhapanzak Waterfall. Thankfully they are very reasonably priced, ranging from around 100-300 Lempira (approx. $5-$15) for the tour. The tour guides will take you all around the waterfall including the hidden cave behind the falls as well as the many pools around the base.
To explore behind the falls, you will have to walk along a trail that starts at a wooden platform. Finally, you’ll have to jump into some pools in the river under the falls and climb over boulders while being pelted by the water from above.
There are 2 spots that you can jump from. The first is a little rock on the way behind the waterfall that is about 10-15 feet high. It has a deep landing, located right below the falls. The second jump is about 200 feet from the base of the waterfall. The guides can show you where to jump from. The height ranges from 25-30 feet and the landing area is clear.
Another amazing place to visit in Honduras is Roatan Island, a rare travel gem that has not yet been ruined by over development. Located about 30 miles off of the Honduran coast, it’s soon to become Honduras’ next big tourist destination .
