Sitting atop the peaks of an ancient mountain chain long ago submerged in the Indian Ocean is an island getaway resort that is quite simply paradise on earth. The La Digue Island Lodge on La Digue Island in the Republic of Seychelles is known for its luxury, its warm hospitality, but most of all for the magnificently pristine beaches and slow paced island life. The beauty of the lodge and the island borders on the surreal. Massive pink and orange weathered boulders dot the beaches and create amazing alcoves in the warm soft sand. The waters here are so clear you can almost see the fish swimming from your room and are colored in the most glorious turquoise blues and greens you have ever seen. As you walk the grounds of the resort, if you’re lucky, you may spy one of the rarest birds in the world, the Black Paradise Flycatcher. Nesting only on La Digue Island, these iridescent bluish black birds number only in the low hundreds. Relax in the warm sun and watch time slowly tick by as you sink into the bliss that La Digue Island Lodge has to offer.
Four types of accommodations are available for you during your stay. The A Frame Chalets are the epitome of island chic with thatched roofs and fantastic tropical gardens surrounding them. Let the salty sea air waft around you in the upper deck mezzanine or sun yourself on the delightful veranda. The Beach House has nine guest rooms and offers tons of open space along with magnificent views of near by Praslin Island from your balcony or terrace. Comfortably furnished with a small living room area they are perfect for the balmy Seychelles’ evenings. Petit Village is nestled among the lush gardens and has several different private units each with their own veranda. Huge beds and the sound of the ocean lapping away at the shores are guaranteed to lull you into a peaceful sleep each night. You can even stay at a Seychelles National Monument. The Yellow House is a fabulous colonial style manor house built in 1900 and features nine guest rooms each with their own spiral staircase that takes you to and from the living area and the bathroom.
Although the rooms are fantastic, you are most certainly not going to want to spend all your time there. And not to worry, there is plenty to keep you entertained at La Digue Island Lodge. Diving and snorkeling are among the top activities enjoyed my vacationers. There is also fishing, hiking trails (make a special trip to the Veuve reserve, you won’t regret it), and of course their incredible spa services. There is nothing like getting a world class massage while overlooking the crystal clear sea and silvery island sand. And of course, you can’t forget the beaches! Rated among the most beautiful on the planet, they are the height of leisure and recreation. Eating will be sheer delight as you dine on carefully prepared local delicacies and other fine cuisine. You have your choice of four different restaurants ranging from casual pizza and pool side dining to exquisite international flavors and lavish Creole fare. The La Digue Island Lodge is at once both sleepy and exciting, charming and brilliant, and most definitely a destination you will write home about.
